Princeton's Rights, Rules, Responsibilities (2.4) states that generative AI is not a source; where an instructor permits generative AI, students must disclose its use rather than cite or acknowledge it. Disclosure of permitted use is therefore required, not merely recommended, while whether AI may be used at all is set by the course or department. Scholarly Integrity guidance says failure to disclose, even in a course where AI is permitted, is a scholarly integrity violation, and offers a disclosure template.

Fudan's formal rule on AI tools in undergraduate theses (adopted by the Academic Affairs Office on 24 September 2024, trial) allows AI use only with the supervisor's consent and only where AI output does not affect assessment of the student's own innovative ability, in four areas: literature search and management (verifying references), suggesting chart types and auxiliary charting (not generating or altering original data or key research figures), coding and method screening where the method is not the thesis's innovation (all code and methods must be reviewed and tested by the author), and reference formatting (with checking). This rule is specific to undergraduate theses; it is not a rule for all courses or for graduate theses.

Every EP course must have a course-level color designation; Yellow courses must also include assignment-level labels for all assessments and activities, while Red and Green courses need not apply categories at the assignment level. King's College London does not require students to cite generative AI as an authoritative source in the reference list, but it requires students to acknowledge any use of generative AI tools in coursework by including a declaration statement with their references. Unless the assessment brief gives other wording, students append either a declaration that no part of the submission was generated by AI software (English grammar and spell checking is consistent with this statement) or a declaration that parts of the submission have AI contributions within the acceptable use specified in the brief, naming the tools and how they were used.

King's Academic Misconduct Policy states that using generative AI tools to produce output that is then copied as part of a submission is not appropriate, that any work submitted must genuinely demonstrate the student's own work, skills and knowledge and follow the assessment guidelines, and that generative AI writing programmes are third-party technologies to be used only in accordance with College guidance. The King's guidance adds that submitting AI-generated text as one's own without written departmental permission is considered misconduct (third-party involvement or text manipulation) where it gives undue advantage or interferes with assessment of the student's own understanding. A written permission or acknowledgement does not by itself make substantive AI content creation acceptable.

In the APSO reading version as amended by the12th amending statute, §22(1) says attempting to influence an examination result through deception or unauthorized aids leads to a failing grade. Suitable software may check unacknowledged text or sources, while the examiner determines whether deception occurred. Under §22(2), disruption may lead to exclusion from that examination and a failing grade. In serious or repeated deception or disruption cases, the examination committee may exclude the student from further examinations in the degree program, with final failure of the degree examination (§22(3)). Under §24(6), an examination failed because of §22 deception or disruption may be retaken only once. These are general examination provisions, not a separate AI-specific sanction schedule.
