Since May 1, 2026, McGill GPS asks thesis students to consult its GenAI Research Statement and Disclosure Guidelines and, with their supervisor, include a GenAI statement and disclosure framework in master's and doctoral theses. This statement and framework are recommended, not yet mandatory; failure to disclose AI use may compromise or delay assessment of the thesis, and after Fall 2026 consultations they may become mandatory. Department, supervisor and discipline requirements still apply.

The use of a generative AI statement and disclosure framework is recommended, but not yet mandatory.

McGill IT Services offers a secure Commercial Data Protection version of Microsoft Copilot, accessed with McGill credentials, which it chose because it conforms to the University's privacy and data protection standards; the public version of Copilot does not conform and should not be used for McGill-related purposes. Even in the secure version, users should not share private, sensitive, PII, PHI, PCI or other confidential information. McGill's separate 'AI Tools at McGill' directory returned HTTP 403 when re-checked on 2026-10-20, so the current directory entries (names, audiences, prices) could not be independently re-verified. Tool approval is not permission to use AI in an assessment.

CUHK leaves pedagogical AI rules to course teacher discretion. For example, Chung Chi College General Education courses (GECC3130/4130, AY2026/27) adopt Approach 2 ('Use only with prior permission'), where GenAI is prohibited for drafting written assignments but permitted for spelling and grammar checking, subject to approval by the Senate Committee on General Education (university-wide full student guide rules remain unverified behind ADFS SSO).

Approach 2 (i.e. “Use only with prior permission”) is adopted for Chung Chi College General Education courses (the revised approach is subject to approval by the Senate Committee on General Education). Students are not allowed to use generative AI (GenAI) tools to prepare or write any part of their written assignments, such as proposals, essays, or project reports. However, students may use GenAI tools solely for spelling and grammar checking. In addition, students are strongly discouraged from using GenAI tools to generate summaries or paraphrases as a substitute for close reading of the core texts. Students may also be asked to engage in interactions with GenAI tools under teachers’ strict

At CUHK, improper or unauthorized use of AI tools in learning activities and assessments constitutes academic dishonesty (including plagiarism or unauthorized third-party assistance) under Senate policy (effective from AY2025-26, updated July 2026), subject to penalties ranging from zero marks to demerits, suspension, or termination of studies, adjudicated by the course-offering faculty/college or the Faculty of Medicine Fitness to Practice (FTP) Committee.

Engineering for Professionals (EP) student guidance requires students to adhere to instructor standards regarding the disclosure of generative AI use. Disclosure may encompass full chat transcripts, citations of specific models or websites, short descriptions of use, single citations per assignment, or visual highlighting of AI-generated content. Students remain fully responsible for verifying accuracy, identifying bias, and ensuring the quality of final submissions. Students must save GenAI outputs or interaction records if disclosure or verification is requested by the course or instructor, and failure to disclose GenAI use when required may constitute academic misconduct.

Disclosure of Generative AI Use Your instructor will outline specific standards regarding the level of GenAI-use disclosure required. Disclosure may include, but is not limited to: Full transcripts of chats or chat history Citations of a specific model or website used for particular tasks A short description of how GenAI was used A single citation per assignment, citing each model or website used Visual identification (for example, highlighting) of GenAI-generated content Failure to disclose GenAI use when required may constitute academic misconduct.

Under Code II.E and II.G, completed Accepting Responsibility creates an internal Academic Integrity Registry record despite not being a finding of guilt. Central records also include Primary Hearing/appeal guilt findings, course, charge, evidence summary, faculty decision, penalties and appeal outcome. Records must be disclosed to Hearing Boards considering other penalties for the same student and to college deans/associate deans for legitimate educational interests; other violation disclosures require student direction or law. A Board or Dean finding of no violation requires expunging all case records from the central registry and college files. No fixed retention duration is specified in II.G.

The Accepting Responsibility process does not result in a finding of guilt under the Code of Academic Integrity. In that sense, the process is akin to a warning. But the process does provide for consequences in the form of a limited penalty and mandatory completion of a workshop.

Northwestern states that faculty, staff, students and affiliates should not enter institutional data into AI tools that have not been university-validated for the intended use and for which the data provider has not given explicit permission.

In most cases, the data you share as part of your queries in generative AI tools will be accessible by others using the same tools. This is because generative AI learns by collecting, analyzing, and storing user-provided information. Therefore, University faculty, staff, students, and affiliates should not enter institutional data into any generative AI tools that have not been validated by the University for appropriate use and have explicit permission of the data provider.

EPFL guidance specifies that submitting AI-generated content as one's own work without proper attribution is considered AI plagiarism. Tools specifically aiming to detect AI-generated content are not admissible as stand-alone evidence of AI plagiarism due to a high risk of false positives. Under continuous assessment procedures, where unauthorized AI use or non-disclosure is suspected, the course teacher writes a report and submits it with evidence to the section director and Legal Service (Affaires juridiques) for formal evaluation, which constitutes a referral of suspected misconduct rather than an adjudication of cheating.

Submitting AI-generated content as your own work without proper attribution is considered AI plagiarism.

U-M requires AI use in teaching and learning to align with principles of honesty, candor, openness, and integrity in scholarship and research, including appropriate disclosure and citation.

Align with the university’s principles for honesty, candor, openness, and integrity in scholarship and research, including appropriate disclosure and citation where AI has been used.

U-M sample syllabi allow instructors to specify GenAI disclosure, restrictions, or bans by activity, in alignment with college policy; examples are not automatically binding campus-wide rules.

Teaching in the presence of ubiquitous GenAI tools should be considered a dynamic endeavor and necessitates flexibility. Approaches and expectations will vary by instructor, course, assessment, and activity. To ensure transparency, it is critical that expectations are clearly articulated in the syllabus and continually reinforced when assignments are given. Instructors should align their course policies with their college’s academic misconduct policies. Instructors are disciplinary experts responsible for what is taught, appropriate pedagogies, and assessment methodologies. GenAI may influence all three, and as such, instructors need flexibility to allow or disallow the use of GenAI tools. I

UCL Press permits certain responsible supporting uses of GenAI in book preparation (brainstorming, language improvement, structure), subject to human oversight, accountability, and disclosure via the Gen AI Disclosure Form. GenAI tools cannot be credited as authors on research-based works. For research monographs, UCL Press does not permit GenAI creation or manipulation of images, figures, charts, tables, or original research data. Editors and peer reviewers shouldn't upload proposals or manuscripts into GenAI tools (advisory guidance), in contrast to the strict mandatory ban for UCL Press journals.

This policy outlines how to acknowledge human authors and contributors in published work. We don’t allow AI or LLM tools to be listed as an author on any research-based work published by UCL Press.

MIT Libraries advises citing or acknowledging AI contributions in academic papers and consulting the applicable school, class, and publication policies. This is citation guidance, not a universal assessment-use permission or a new university-wide mandatory disclosure rule.

If AI is used in the creation of an academic paper in any way, it should be cited in the text and references and/or in the acknowledgements.

HKU permits GenAI for research ideation and background research only with documentation and acknowledgement, verification of accuracy, fairness and originality, fair representation and citation of primary sources, and protection against inevitable disclosure of patentable inventions.

11. Use of GenAI for ideation and background research is only acceptable if • this specific usage of the GenAI system is duly documented and acknowledged; • the researcher has verified the accuracy, fairness, and originality (or lack of originality) of text, figures, table and data generated by a GenAI tool; • the researcher has verified that all relevant external primary sources are cited and represented fully and fairly; and • the use of GenAI does not inevitably disclose patentable inventions.

HKU allows GenAI for experimentation, data collection and analysis only with documentation, fit-for-purpose and data verification, participant confidentiality and prior consent for disclosure beyond the study, protection of proprietary or agreement-controlled data, and applicable ethics-approved participant information for ultra-realistic generated materials.

20. Use of GenAI for experimentation, data collection, and data analysis is only acceptable if a. the specific usage of the GenAI system is duly documented and acknowledged; b. the researcher has verified that the GenAI tool used is accurate, unbiased and fit- for-purpose for the specific research study; c. the researcher has verified the veracity of all the raw and processed data; d. confidentiality and privacy of data from research participants are respected and not shared or disclosed outside the scope of this study without prior consent; e. no proprietary data or data under the control of a data sharing agreement is disclosed to external parties, such as a cloud-based GenAI service provi

Princeton's Rights, Rules, Responsibilities (2.4) states that generative AI is not a source; where an instructor permits generative AI, students must disclose its use rather than cite or acknowledge it. Disclosure of permitted use is therefore required, not merely recommended, while whether AI may be used at all is set by the course or department. Scholarly Integrity guidance says failure to disclose, even in a course where AI is permitted, is a scholarly integrity violation, and offers a disclosure template.

Generative AI is not a source as defined in this provision because its output is not created by a person. If generative AI is permitted by the instructor, students must disclose its use rather than cite or acknowledge the use, since it is an algorithm rather than a source.

Princeton's Office of the Dean of the College requires faculty to set clear expectations for whether, when and how generative AI can be used and to state them in the course syllabus; all students are expected to disclose their generative AI use and not pass off AI-generated content as their own, and faculty may provide their own disclosure template or use the standard one.

Faculty must set clear expectations for whether, when, and how generative AI can be used and state those expectations in the course syllabus. Work created with the assistance of AI tools should never be a proxy for original work. All students are expected to abide by scholarly integrity expectations for appropriate generative AI use, which include disclosing their use of generative AI and not passing off AI-generated content as their own work.

UQ Library advises coursework students to acknowledge AI use, including summarising, brainstorming, planning and editing. Assessment instructions and discipline-specific practices determine the required form and relevance of disclosure; students must check each task and course profile.

You must acknowledge where you used AI in assessment, including where you have directly quoted or paraphrased AI-generated content or used tools to summarise readings, brainstorm ideas, plan your process, or for editing or proofreading purposes.

From Semester 2, 2026 UQ classifies assessment tasks as Secure or Open. Secure tasks specify approved materials and whether AI may be used; Open tasks permit resources including AI, subject to task instructions and any specified disclosure requirements. An 'AI required' condition applies to tasks assessing AI use.

Assessment tasks are classified as secure or open,  with matching automated text added to course profiles to improve consistency and clarity. Task instructions must still specify the materials and tools students may use and any disclosure requirements.

Violations of GenAI guidelines such as use of unauthorised aids or non-disclosure of their use are subject to disciplinary action under existing performance assessment rules and the declaration of originality.

4. Legal aspects of GenAI uses are covered by the existing rules for performance assessments and the “declaration of originality”. Violations such as use of unauthorised aids or non-disclosure of their use will continue to be subject to disciplinary action.

ETH Zurich's teaching guidelines instruct students to be transparent about their use of generative AI and to identify which tools contributed to which parts of their work, in accordance with applicable lecturer instructions and citation conventions. For scientific writing and theses, students should agree in advance with their supervisors on authorised AI use and disclosure requirements. ETH Library guidance recognises an exception where a supervisor has expressly agreed that particular AI use need not be separately declared. In the absence of such an agreement, undeclared use may constitute a breach of academic integrity.

Transparency : Clearly communicate to your students in what circumstances GenAI use is permitted and provide guidance on making its use transparent. Be a good role model and make the use of GenAI visible in your own documents, teaching materials, and whether it’s used for assessing student work.

KU researcher guidance says researchers should comply with sponsor, publisher, institutional, and disciplinary rules when using GenAI and should consider confidentiality, privacy, intellectual property, and disclosure requirements.

Researchers should exercise appropriate caution when using GenAI tools in research activities. In particular: Review and comply with funding agency, sponsor, and publisher policies related to AI use. Be attentive to how AI tools handle data, including confidentiality, privacy, and intellectual property considerations.

Student academic-integrity guidance says a full disclosure of GenAI-produced content should always be acknowledged, and passing off that content as one's own work counts as academic misconduct.

A full disclosure of any content produced by GenAI should always be acknowledged in your work. Attempts to pass off content as your own work is counted as academic misconduct and may lead to action being taken against you.

Assessment guidance says that when GenAI use is allowed, students may be asked to provide full disclosure using an Acknowledge, Describe, Evidence template, while noting that some schools may use a different process.

In assignments where you are sure that you are allowed to use GenAI, you may be asked to provide a full disclosure of how you have done so. You can provide this information by completing an Acknowledge, Describe, Evidence template.

On 12 January 2026 Fudan launched the AI3A education co-creation platform and published the Generative AI Education and Teaching Application Guide 1.0, with 11 annexes such as an AI use declaration template and reference syllabus clauses. According to Fudan's official announcement, the guide allows AI for supporting steps such as language polishing and structural suggestions but not to replace core academic work such as research conception, theory building and data analysis, and judges integrity mainly on honest disclosure and process records. The guide's full text sits on the AI3A platform and was not independently reviewed; it is teaching guidance and does not by itself override the stricter undergraduate-thesis rule.

1月12日，复旦大学正式上线AI3A教育共创平台，同步发布《复旦大学生成式人工智能教育教学应用指引1.0版》

Fudan's formal rule on AI tools in undergraduate theses (adopted by the Academic Affairs Office on 24 September 2024, trial) allows AI use only with the supervisor's consent and only where AI output does not affect assessment of the student's own innovative ability, in four areas: literature search and management (verifying references), suggesting chart types and auxiliary charting (not generating or altering original data or key research figures), coding and method screening where the method is not the thesis's innovation (all code and methods must be reviewed and tested by the author), and reference formatting (with checking). This rule is specific to undergraduate theses; it is not a rule for all courses or for graduate theses.
