ZHAW has a public university guideline, valid from 1 March 2025, on the use of generative AI systems in assessments.
For ZHAW graded assignments, generative AI systems that shape the assignment's content are subject to a declaration obligation so that the AI contribution is recognizable.
For ZHAW examinations, specific generative AI systems are not allowed unless they are explicitly stated as permitted aids.
ZHAW states that personal data, data requiring heightened protection, and legally or contractually confidential data may not be processed with generative AI systems unless ZHAW has reviewed and approved those systems for data-protection compliance.
ZHAW's declaration annex requires incorporated generative-AI output to be cited, requires listed tools and purposes for text creation or editing uses, and generally requires a method-section description of AI use.
For evaluating assessments, ZHAW says teaching staff may use generative AI only as an aid for open-ended task formats and should refrain from using software to detect AI-generated text for assessment purposes.
