−旧文本HGSE (Harvard Graduate School of Education) school-level policy: Unless otherwise specified by the instructor, using generative AI to create all or part of an assignment (e.g., paper, memo, presentation, short response) and submitting it as one's own work violates the HGSE Academic Integrity Policy. Permissible uses include seeking clarification on concepts, brainstorming ideas, or generating scenarios that help contextualize learning.
+新文本HGSE states that, unless the instructor specifies otherwise, using generative AI to create all or part of a course assignment and submit it as one’s own violates its Academic Integrity Policy. Permissible learning uses include clarification, brainstorming and contextual scenarios; students must discuss uncertain uses with the instructor before use.

+Social Studies prohibits generative or agentic AI assistance in submitted coursework, exams/quizzes and all thesis stages by default. Instructors may publish alternative syllabus rules but must require disclosure. Thesis exceptions are case-specific: obtain supervisor approval, submit the AI Policy Attestation request, and secure DUS approval by November 1 of senior year, or April 1 for off-cycle fall seniors. The AI Policy Attestation form is required in consultation with the supervisor at Prospectus submission and again in senior year. Thesis work cannot reuse AI-assisted work from another course merely because that course allowed it. These rules apply to Social Studies requirements.

+The Harvard Law Graduate Program permits AI queries to clarify exam-relevant concepts while studying, but prohibits queries about exam subject matter during the exam. Pre-writing AI text for incorporation into an exam is not permitted. Instructors may set different rules only when described in writing and communicated to all students. This applies to the Graduate Program policy, not all Harvard courses.

−旧文本University-wide: AI meeting assistants (AI note takers or bots) should not be used in Harvard meetings, with the exception of approved tools with contractual protections including enterprise agreements with appropriate security and privacy protections, or tools as part of limited HUIT-directed pilot programs.
+新文本Harvard meeting guidance says AI assistants should not be used except approved tools with contractual protections or applicable approved pilots/accommodations. Participants must be informed and all must consent before recording/transcription begins. The guidance says not to use assistants when participants object (with a disability-accommodation consultation route), and to disable them in meetings involving Level 3 or higher information. Summaries must be reviewed before limited sharing; retention and litigation holds also apply.

−旧文本University-wide: Only Harvard-offered versions of generative AI tools carry stated data classification protections. Publicly-available versions of the same tools should not be used for Harvard work. Approved tools (Harvard AI Sandbox, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot Chat, ChatGPT Edu, Adobe Firefly) are approved for Level 3 data and below.
+新文本HUIT’s general-use comparison applies Level 3-or-below approval and no-vendor-training protection only when logged in with a Harvard account. It does not approve Level 4 data. HMS separately lists special-request Level 4 tools and a Level 2 ceiling for automated meeting assistants. Product access, data approval, DUA/sponsor limits and assessment permission must be checked separately.

−旧文本University-wide: Level 2 and above confidential data (including non-public research data, finance, HR, student records, medical information) should not be entered into publicly-available generative AI tools. Such data may only be entered into generative AI tools that have been assessed and approved by Harvard's Information Security and Data Privacy office.
+新文本Harvard guidance says Level 2 and above confidential data should not be entered into publicly available generative AI tools and must only be entered into tools assessed and approved for that use. HUIT-listed managed general-use tools are approved up to Level 3 with a Harvard account and are not approved for Level 4. Separate HMS Level 4 research/development services require their own access and data-use conditions.

+HMS offers one selected managed AI tool per eligible user. Its Sandbox/premium tool rows specify Quad-based faculty, staff and MD/DMD students, with training and some course-based exceptions. Managed tools outside meetings have a Level 3 ceiling; automated meeting assistants have a Level 2 ceiling. HMS Azure AI and Longwood Cluster are separately requested Level 4 environments. DUA, regulatory and sponsor limits still apply even to data-approved tools; no tool is approved for Level 5.

−旧文本FAS (Faculty of Arts and Sciences) Office of Undergraduate Education guidance: Faculty must get documented permission from students before putting original student content into any generative AI tool. No confidential information can be loaded into generative AI systems since there is no expectation of privacy or confidentiality.
+新文本FAS OUE guidance requires documented student permission before faculty put original student content into a generative AI tool and says students should be informed of the risks. Its page also contains a broad no-confidentiality statement. HUIT separately describes contractual privacy protections for approved managed services; that data approval does not waive FAS student-content consent or course rules.
