Fudan University

On 12 January 2026 Fudan launched the AI3A education co-creation platform and published the Generative AI Education and Teaching Application Guide 1.0, with 11 annexes such as an AI use declaration template and reference syllabus clauses. According to Fudan's official announcement, the guide allows AI for supporting steps such as language polishing and structural suggestions but not to replace core academic work such as research conception, theory building and data analysis, and judges integrity mainly on honest disclosure and process records. The guide's full text sits on the AI3A platform and was not independently reviewed; it is teaching guidance and does not by itself override the stricter undergraduate-thesis rule.

Under the Fudan undergraduate-thesis AI rule, breaches are handled according to their seriousness: they may be reflected in the thesis assessment grade, lead to refusal of the defence or cancellation of a passing grade, and only where they constitute academic misconduct lead to disciplinary sanctions, loss of degree eligibility or degree revocation. Course papers, term papers and exam papers may refer to this rule where no specific rule exists, while published academic papers and research activities are governed by other rules and are outside its scope. Supervisors and reviewers may add supplementary assessment to check the student's mastery.

When AI tools are used in a Fudan undergraduate thesis, the thesis commitment form must disclose the tool name and version, time and specific purpose of use, the content or suggestions the AI produced, and the parts of the thesis where it was used; students must keep the relevant pre-AI materials for inspection by the supervisor or reviewers. The author bears final responsibility and AI cannot be listed as an author.

The same Fudan undergraduate-thesis rule (Article 4) prohibits AI in six areas: research design and data analysis; generating or altering original data (unless AI itself is the research topic); generating or altering original result images and key illustrations (unless a reproducible AI method is part of the design and explained in the methods); directly generating thesis text or acknowledgements, including AI language polishing and translation; use of AI by defence committee members or reviewers to evaluate the thesis; and any AI use or upload for theses involving confidential content.

Under Fudan's Student Disciplinary Regulations (2017, amended 2019), students must be informed of their right to state their case and defend themselves before a sanction. A student who disagrees with a disciplinary decision may appeal to the University Student Appeals Committee within ten days (not working days) of service of the decision; the committee normally concludes within fifteen days (extendable by fifteen), and a student who disagrees with the review decision may appeal to the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission within fifteen days of its service (Student Appeals Regulations, effective 1 September 2017). A teacher's request to redo or supplement an assessment is not automatically a disciplinary decision.

Fudan's AI3A platform (launched January 2026) gathers teaching cases, a training section with an AI literacy self-test system, global AI cases and a staff-student co-creation area, and its tool square recommends tools by teaching scenario. Course-level AI teaching assistants exist in specific courses. Listing on the platform is not evidence of university-wide procurement, data approval or assessment permission.
