UCLA’s Interim2026 Code identifies unauthorized or prohibited AI assignment composition as cheating and AI-composed work without attribution as plagiarism. Follow the actual instructor’s directions; the2026–27 resource memo establishes no new academic policy or course permission.
UCLA DTS requires explicit secure-environment approval before entering protected student/health/personnel information, unpublished research/IP/grants or restricted data. The comparison allows P1–P3 in UCLA accounts, requires Unit Head/CISO approval for P4, and excludes PHI from UCLA Health users’ campus AI tools. These conditions do not establish no retention.
Eligible campus accounts provide Gemini, Gemini Notebook and Copilot Chat; M365 and ChatGPT faculty/staff licences are separately purchased. Some units do not issue M365 licences; ChatGPT direct student purchase is unavailable. Anthropic products are coming soon. Provision is not assessment permission.
Policy993 and Procedure993.1 apply from January1,2026 to specified research appointments/funding circumstances. Ordinary students’ research allegations generally follow the Student Code unless the stated sponsored-research exception applies. A public-review draft is not the operative policy.
UCLA Academic Senate guidance quotes the Student Conduct Code requirement that submissions must be the student’s own work or clearly acknowledge the source, and says that unless an instructor indicates otherwise, use of ChatGPT or other AI tools for course assignments is akin to receiving assistance from another person.
The UCLA Academic Senate's 2023 teaching guidance explains instructor-specific AI rules and source acknowledgement. The Interim 2026 Conduct Code further expressly defines unauthorized AI composition as cheating and unacknowledged AI-created work as plagiarism; follow the faculty member's course directions.
The2026 individual Code uses separate administrative-resolution and post-hearing routes, with five-plus-five and ten-Day formulations in different passages. Their overlap/start-event relationship remains unresolved in this local review; obtain the applicable notice and route instead of calculating one universal appeal deadline.
Under the individual Code, students can select or request an Advisor, inspect relevant documents and respond to allegations. An Advisor supports but does not speak for or disrupt proceedings. Contact Student Conduct to schedule the initial meeting within five University business Days from notice; preserve the actual notice.
UCLA’s dated Turnitin announcement opted out of its AI-writing detection preview, citing concerns; it does not establish a blanket ban on all detection technologies. Senate teaching advice encourages clear course expectations rather than universal permission.
UCLA’s third-party risk process acts at the pre-contract stage. Use the relevant GRC intake and product-specific approvals; procurement/security review and course authorization are separate.
