−旧テキストThe University of Cambridge broadly permits the appropriate use of GenAI tools and related software. Students are permitted to make appropriate use of GenAI tools to support their personal study, research and formative work. Staff are permitted to make appropriate use of GenAI tools to support their own work.
+新しいテキストCambridge broadly permits appropriate GenAI use for personal study, research and formative work, with nuanced Department, Faculty or College guidance controlling the context. Students should check local rules with staff; this is not blanket permission for summative assessments.

+The Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering Triposes’ policy, approved by the Faculty Board in June 2026, requires declaring all GenAI used to prepare summative work unless the assessment brief states otherwise. Assignment-specific rules take precedence. Students must not generate raw submission/presentation content without an initial self-written base or automatically generate references from content; tools managing student-identified references remain allowed. Students are responsible for submitted work and are expected to explain it; marks reflect unmet learning outcomes even when no academic misconduct is established.

−旧テキストWhen using GenAI tools, users should: remain aware of privacy and data implications and not share anything personal or sensitive; understand ethical implications as tools often have limited attribution; acknowledge use of GenAI if it makes a significant contribution to substantive work; and take responsibility for ensuring use is conducted reasonably, lawfully, and in conjunction with relevant University policies.
+新しいテキストCambridge’s educational guidance advises users to consider privacy and ethics, avoid sharing personal/sensitive material carelessly, acknowledge a significant and unrevised GenAI contribution to substantive or impactful work, and take responsibility for lawful use under relevant University policies. These general recommendations do not replace a particular assessment’s declaration requirements.

−旧テキストExaminers are not permitted to upload, copy, or share student work with Generative AI tools and Large Language Models. Examiners may not use tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Bard, or Microsoft Copilot to analyse student work or provide written feedback. Examiners may use these tools to support their own writing in documenting feedback (e.g. consolidating personal notes and rephrasing comments).
+新しいテキストCambridge says examiners across undergraduate, taught-postgraduate and research-postgraduate programmes may not upload, copy or share student work with GenAI/LLMs or use them to analyse submissions and produce feedback. The source also prohibits sharing student IP/submissions without student permission because of uncertain storage/use. Examiners may use AI to support their own feedback writing, such as consolidating personal notes or rephrasing comments; this is not blanket permission to upload student work.

−旧テキストStaff must avoid inputting confidential, sensitive or personal information into GenAI tools unless warranted and only in accordance with guidance. Inputting data into a free or unlicensed GenAI tool could be considered equivalent to putting it into the public domain, signifying a potential personal data breach.
+新しいテキストCambridge’s staff administrative-use guidance recommends avoiding confidential, sensitive or personal data in GenAI unless warranted and consistent with the guidance. This document expressly excludes teaching, student learning/assessment, research, and College or other separate-entity business. It is not an unconditional privacy prohibition for all student AI use.

+Version 4 of Cambridge’s Research Data Management Policy Framework, reviewed on 25 June 2026, requires its research community, including staff and students involved in research, to comply with applicable University, funder and publisher requirements for GenAI in research, dissemination, funding applications and research assessment. Relevant issues include sensitive data, ownership, copyright, ethics, integrity and security. The framework says there is no distinct University GenAI research policy; that does not mean research has no AI-related rules.

+Cambridge reports its existing Turnitin terms/EULA are extended until 30 July 2027 and no EULA change will be implemented in 2026/27. The notice says student/staff data has not been used to develop GenAI/LLMs and Turnitin has no current plan to use student essays that way; this is not an unlimited future contractual guarantee. Turnitin similarity screening is available under University course-use conditions, while Cambridge separately advises not relying on AI-authorship detectors as evidence.

−旧テキストThe University's standard licensed GenAI tools are Microsoft 365 Copilot, Google Gemini, and Google NotebookLM. Use of other licensed GenAI tools is not prohibited but must be procured in accordance with applicable procurement policy, including completion of risk assessments such as DPIAs and/or ISRAs. The public, free versions of Copilot, Gemini and NotebookLM must not be used for University activities.
+新しいテキストFor staff administrative work, Cambridge recommends its licensed Copilot, Gemini and NotebookLM wherever practicable. Other licensed tools are not prohibited but must follow applicable procurement processes and any requisite DPIA/ISRA risk assessments. Within this administrative guidance, the public free versions of the named tools must not be used for University activities. These rules do not establish student assessment permission.

−旧テキストThe University's Information Security Risk Assessment (ISRA) and Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) processes remain the relevant risk assessment processes for GenAI use. The Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) continues to apply, including compliance monitoring and enforcement provisions, when using GenAI tools.
+新しいテキストCambridge’s staff administrative guidance says that in the limited circumstances requiring a formal risk assessment, the University DPIA and ISRA processes are the relevant processes. This is not a requirement to perform both assessments for every AI use. Applicable procurement and acceptable-use conditions still apply within the document’s administrative scope.

−旧テキストData input into the University's licensed versions of Copilot, Gemini and NotebookLM is not used to train those tools. Inputting data into free or unlicensed GenAI tools could result in data being used for training, which may not be a lawful use of personal data.
+新しいテキストCambridge’s staff administrative guidance says inputs to the University’s licensed Copilot, Gemini and NotebookLM are not used to train those tools. Free/unlicensed tools may use input for training, which may not be lawful for personal data. This is an institutional-product protection, not a guarantee for consumer accounts or permission for a particular task.

−旧テキストStaff must consider the purpose for which data was collected before inputting it into GenAI tools. Data must be collected, held and used for only that purpose. It is not appropriate to use personal data collected for a different purpose with a GenAI tool. Automated decision-making involving GenAI requires human involvement in the decision-making process.
+新しいテキストCambridge’s staff administrative guidance requires consideration of the purpose for which personal data was collected and compatibility of proposed AI use. With exceptions such as academic research, it says repurposing personal data for another GenAI task is inappropriate. Its separate discussion of automated decisions affecting people requires ultimate human involvement. The document’s own teaching/research and separate-entity exclusions remain relevant.

−旧テキストCambridge provides an AI Policy Framework for triposes, departments, faculties, and colleges to determine their own local allowance for the use of AI, rather than a single university-wide AI policy. The framework is adapted from a policy proposal by Dr Claire Benn and Dr John Burden from the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence.
+新しいテキストCambridge’s educational AI framework supports Triposes, Departments, Faculties and Colleges setting their own local allowances. It is an educational policy framework; its existence must not be interpreted as absence of all central assessment or research requirements.

−旧テキストAll GenAI outputs must be thoroughly evaluated by a human being before they are used. Use of GenAI must be acknowledged if it makes a significant and unrevised contribution to a substantive or impactful piece of work. Staff are responsible for ensuring any use of GenAI is conducted reasonably, lawfully and in conjunction with relevant University policies.
+新しいテキストFor University staff administrative work, Cambridge’s risk mitigations require human evaluation before using GenAI outputs and acknowledgement when AI makes a significant and unrevised contribution to substantive or impactful work, such as formal policies or strategic reports. The guidance excludes teaching, student learning/assessment and research; it does not impose this administrative requirement on all student coursework.
